As of 4PM today, April 29, 2020, the DOH reports 254 new cases (PH7959-PH8212) of COVID-19. The total number of cases in the country is now at 8,212. DOH also announces 48 new recoveries. This brings the total number of recoveries to 1,023.

Philippines extends lockdown of Manila until May 15

The Philippines has extended its lockdown of Manila until May 15 in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus, according to a report by Reuters. The lockdown will also include other regions in the Philippines with large outbreaks but it will be modified in lower-risk areas, added the report. Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s spokesperson Harry Roque made the announcement yesterday. According to CNN Philippines, Roque said the following provinces are considered high-risk and will be placed under extended enhanced community quarantine: Pangasinan, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecijia, Pampanga, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Albay, and Catanduanes. Taiwan allows order of face mask starting Wednesday at country's convenience store

People in Taiwan will be able to order their quota of nine facemask starting on Wednesday in the country's four major convenience store chains, following the government's adjusted  mask rationing system. Instead of a daily basis, masks will be available for order during specified time frames in the future as announced by the government. This week will be the first given time frame when people can place orders using the self-service kiosks at more than 10,000 Family Mart, 7-Eleven, OK Mart, and Hi-Life convenience stores from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Friday. People just have to  present their national health insurance (NHI) cards and pay for the masks with the order. Face masks will be then available for pick up between April 30 and May 13 at their designated convenience store. Consumers can also pick up their order in PX Mart or Simple Mart. The two supermarket chains, however, cannot accommodate orders because they are not equipped with the machines needed to read NHI car
